Retinal Detachment Surgery

Imagine you wake up one day, and your vision isn’t right. Everything looks fuzzy and unclear. This happens to some people when a part of their eye called the retina gets detached. It can be terrifying because they might lose their eyesight.

But there’s hope! retinal detachment laser surgery in Dubai can help fix it. This surgery can save their eyesight and make things clear again.

Understanding Retinal Detachment

Retinal detachment occurs when the retina, situated at the back of the eye, is pulled away from its normal position.

This separation can lead to vision loss and, if left untreated, can ultimately result in permanent blindness in the affected eye. Retinal detachment laser surgery in Dubai can help repair retinal detachment by positioning the retina back to its normal place.

Do You Know!

Retinal detachment is a medical emergency. If you exhibit symptoms of a detached retina, you must go to your eye doctor or the emergency room immediately.

Symptoms develop rapidly, and untreated detachment can lead to permanent vision loss or blindness.

Risk Factors of Retinal Detachment

While anyone can experience retinal detachment, certain individuals are at a higher risk, including those:

  • Have older age
  • Have a family history of retinal detachment

Preparation Before Retinal Detachment laser Surgery In Dubai

During your visit, our surgeon, Dr. Vasu Kumar, will ask about the symptoms. A complete retinal examination will be done with the help of bright light and special lenses.

This examination thoroughly assesses the back portion of the eye, including the retina. Any hole, tear, or detachment of the retina can be diagnosed during this examination. If any sign of bleeding is present, Dr. Vasu may perform an ultrasound to obtain a clear picture of the retina.

Types of Retinal Detachment Surgery Dubai

Based on the retinal detachment’s characteristics, three different types of surgery may be performed:

Vitrectomy:

In this method, the vitreous gel, which pulls on the retinal surface, is removed and replaced with a gas bubble. The body's fluid will gradually replace the gas bubble. Sometimes, an oil bubble may be used, which will be removed by another surgical procedure. In some cases, vitrectomy is performed along with a scleral buckle.

Pneumatic Retinopexy:

This method involves injecting a gas bubble into the eye. The gas bubble exerts pressure on the retinal tear, sealing it against the eye wall. Cryosurgery or laser treatment is then used to secure the retina to the eye wall surrounding the retinal tear. Eventually, the gas bubble disappears naturally.

Scleral buckling:

This procedure entails the placement of a silicone band (scleral buckle) around the outside of the eye. This band counteracts the force that is pulling the retina out of place. In this method, the surgeon typically drains the fluid under the retina, allowing it to return to its normal position.
